We’re all excited to see your child entering the Pre–K Room. Cool Cats is your child’s last stop before kindergarten, and we’re here to give him the knowledge, skills and confidence he needs to succeed in school.

Cool Cat kids are a mixture of babies and big kids. We give them the chance to be both. They love doing “work” so we do lots of coloring and worksheets, but we provide plenty of time for running off steam. Cool Cats are testing out their gender roles, so don’t be surprised if your little girl wants to wear pink dresses every day. They also learn to take temper tantrums and power struggles to new levels, so we are sure to provide them with lots of choices while still providing a safe, structured environment.059
We provide a variety of experiences for them that will help to reinforce their mastery of skills and encourage them to grow. We will be doing more reading and more activities with letters and numbers to make sure they are getting ready for kindergarten. And we may throw in a few words in Spanish just for good measure. We know you’ll enjoy the change in your child as s/he begins to feel “bigger” and more “grown up.”

We are eager to partner with you to provide the best experience for your child. If you have any suggestions, questions or concerns please feel free to talk to any of the staff or call anytime during the day. We need your help if we are going to provide the very best care for your child.

Things to bring:

  • A blanket to be left at the center for nap time. If your child has a special blanket s/he needs to take home daily, let us know. Otherwise blankets will be sent home every Friday to be washed.
  • A change of clothes. This includes socks, underwear, pants and a shirt.
  • Warm clothes for outdoor play. We try to go outside almost every day. Please bring boots, hats, mittens and snow pants so your child can enjoy the Minnesota winter. Remember to label all your child’s extra and outdoor clothes.

Things to leave home:

  • Food. Unless your child is on a special diet please don’t bring food to school. We will provide that.
  • Toys. Children will be allowed to bring toys from home when we have a Show and Tell day. We can’t guarantee to keep track of toys, so please don’t bring anything too valuable.

Lesson Plans

Lesson plans are posted outside the classroom door. They are changed weekly.


We are not permitted to give your child medication without a doctor’s permission. This includes over the counter medications like cough syrups or Tylenol. If your child has a prescription medication, please bring the medicine in the original container and fill out a medicine dispensing permit.


We’ve found that if we keep the children engaged in activities we have fewer problems with behavior. When problems do occur we intervene by:

  1. Restructuring the environment
  2. Redirecting a child’s focus
  3. Giving the child the appropriate language and helping them to work out their problems
